PDMI East and COVID-19 Update

Update: PDMI East Badge Options (March 18):

Thank you for purchasing your badge to attend PDMI East in Miami. As you know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to cancel the event as of last Friday. We’re disappointed that we won’t be able to see you in South Florida next month, but look forward to our next opportunity to connect face-to-face at PDMI West in San Diego.

Regarding your PDMI East badge, we’d like to present you two options:

Maintain your badge purchase for PDMI West, Sept. 14-16: Simply drop us a line and let us know you’d like us to transition your PDMI East badge purchase from the cancelled Miami event forward to PDMI West in San Diego. Take the hassle away from locking in your badge for our fall event when registration opens in the coming weeks.

  • In addition to maintaining your badge for PDMI West, get in line first for discounted rooms at our host hotel, Pendry San Diego. That’s right: as soon as badge and hotel registration open for PDMI West, all PDMI East badgeholders who choose to shift their badges forward to the San Diego event will be sent the proper link and code to register for their hotel rooms.

  • The PDMI is also planning upcoming webinars/virtual educational sessions — more details coming soon! All PDMI East badgeholders who choose to turn those badges into PDMI West badges also will be automatically RSVPed to attend these special online events.

Request a refund of your PDMI East badge purchase: All refunds for PDMI East badges will be for the full cost of your badge, less a $25 administrative fee (as noted in our event badge cancellation policy: https://www.thepdmi.com/event-badge-cancellation-policy). All badge refund requests will be processed within 10-14 days of the refund request.

  • In order to receive a refund, you must contact Thomas Haire via email by March 31, 2020 denoting your desire for a refund. In the subject line of your email, please write: PDMI East Refund. If we do not hear from you by March 31, we will automatically roll your badge purchase into PDMI West 2020.

We look forward to hearing back from you — and hoping you choose to take this opportunity to push your registration forward to the PDMI’s upcoming San Diego event.

Should you have any questions about the above information, or should your team have any further inquiries, we are happy to assist. Please reach out to Thomas Haire, John Yarrington, or Jessica Delich anytime.

Update: PDMI East 2020 Cancelled (March 13):

As expressed in several recent communications, the PDMI has been in continual contact with the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau (GMCVB); our primary hotel, the Eden Roc/Nobu; and our overflow hotel, the Confidante — as well as with our key vendors, suppliers, and partners who help us host our events regarding the best and safest course of action for all of those involved with PDMI East.  In addition — 24 hours ago — the PDMI sought the opinion of more than 150 companies who are our greatest stakeholders in the upcoming Miami event: PDMI East sponsors and PDMI members.

We are touched by the support and sentiment we received from so many of these stakeholders. The overwhelming response was focused on ensuring the health and safety of our members and attendees during these challenging and uncertain times. Since the PDMI is a huge believer that people are the most valued asset in our community, we can’t imagine a scenario where — even though the continuing demand for PDMI East was strong — that we proceed forward with a multi-day conference with so much ambiguity about the safety of tomorrow. While it’s incredibly heartbreaking to share the cancellation of PDMI East 2020, protecting the people we care about the most helps make this a much easier decision.

Rather than rescheduling PDMI East, we have decided to extend a warm welcome to each of you to join us at Pendry San Diego, Sept. 14-16, for PDMI West 2020. We believe waiting to the fall to host a large-scale event is certainly the safest decision and has everyone’s best interest in mind. Please know, details about event registration and hotel room availability for PDMI West will be shared in the coming weeks.

As per PDMI East, here is some important information regarding next steps :

  • Lodging: For those who have reserved a hotel room at the Eden Roc/Nobu, you will be receiving an email notifying you of a reservation cancellation — if not already, very shortly.  If you do not receive this email, you may contact the hotel directly at: +1-855-433-3676. For those who have reserved a room at the Confidante Miami Beach, you will receive a cancellation email this coming week — please stay tuned. Please know you are exempt from any financial responsibility for your planned housing at either of these hotels under the PDMI block rate/group code.

  • Badges: For those who have purchased a badge to attend PDMI East, you will receive an email from the PDMI team no later than Wednesday, March 18, with further details regarding the event’s cancellation and future PDMI events.

  • Sponsorships: For those who are sponsors of PDMI East, you will receive an email from the PDMI team no later than Friday, March 20 with details regarding the event’s cancellation and future PDMI events.

Again, although we are deeply saddened by the cancellation of our industry’s spring conference, we take solace in knowing that by making this huge sacrifice together, we are making a difference in the future health and safety of our community.

May better days lie ahead, may our friends and loved ones find good health, and may we all have a prosperous second half of 2020. As the old saying goes, “This too shall pass.”

Should you have any questions about the above information or should your team have any further inquiries, please email John Yarrington, Tom Haire, or Jessica Delich. They will be happy to assist.

Update: PDMI East and COVID-19 (March 11):

Following President Trump’s address tonight, which included a European travel ban for at least the next 30 days (on top of the already existing ban for travel from those who’ve been in China), the PDMI is in contact with our hotel partners regarding our options given the number of registered PDMI East attendees from both Europe and Asia. We will share any outcomes from these conversations as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and support.
